3 Songs You Can Learn on the Piano Sooner Than You Think

One of the biggest myths about learning piano is that you need months of lessons before you can play anything enjoyable.

In reality, many beginners can learn simple versions of well-loved songs much sooner than they expect.

If you've always wanted to play the piano but feel intimidated, here are three songs I often recommend to beginners.

1. When the Saints Go Marching In

This classic tune is fantastic for beginners because the melody is simple, memorable, and fun to play.

You can start by learning just the tune with your right hand. Once you're feeling confident, you can add three simple chords in your left hand to create a fuller sound.

It's often one of those magical moments when students realise:

"I can actually play a song!"

2. Can't Help Falling in Love

This beautiful song is relaxing, gentle, and surprisingly accessible for beginners.

The melody sits comfortably under the fingers, and with a small stretch of the thumb here and there, many beginners can play a recognisable version quite quickly.

It's a lovely song to play for yourself at the end of a busy day.

3. Lean on Me

This is one of my favourite songs for beginner pianists.

It's uplifting, familiar, and sounds wonderful even in a simplified arrangement.

Using practice tools and play-along apps, beginners can enjoy playing along with accompaniment, making the experience feel musical and rewarding from the very beginning.

The Secret to Learning Piano

Most adults don't quit because they're incapable.

They quit because they spend too long practising things that don't feel like music.

Learning songs you know and love helps build confidence, motivation, and enjoyment.

And that's exactly how I teach.
